Women's Volleyball Signs Three for 1998 Season

Look to defend ACC title

The Clemson Tiger volleyball team announced the signing of three athletes that will join the squad for the upcoming 1998 season.

Anne Berki is a 6'2'' middle hitter that played for Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, IL. Anne has earned two varsity letters in volleyball, as well as being named as the team's most valuable player this past season. In 1997, Berki was also recognized as a member of the East Aurora All-Tournament Team, a first team All-Area Player for the Daily Herald Newspaper, a Hinsdale Scholar Athlete, and a member of the West Surburan All-Conference team. In the off season, Burki trained for the last two years with the Spikettes, a club team out of Chicago, Il that finished fifth in the United States Volleyball Association National Tournament last year.

Meredith Kirkland hails from Miami, Fl where she has earned five varsity letters for volleyball at Westminster Christian School in Miami. In her five years of volleyball at Westminster, Meredith has been named to the Miami Herald All Dade County Team for the past four years, and was the two-time Miami Herald All Dade County Volleyball Player of the Year. In addition to Kirkland's five varsity letters in volleyball, this 5'11'' outside hitter also earned four letters in basketball, two letters in track, and one in tennis. Kirkland has also played club volleyball for the past three years as a member of the South Florida Volleyball Club.

Jodi Steffes is a 6'1'' left handed hitter out of Elwood, Il. Jodi earned two varsity letters for her performance on the Providence Catholic High School Team, as well as leading her 1997 team to the regional finals. This past season, Steffes was named as the Frankfork Mokema Star Player of the Year, and was named a first team member of the Joliet Herald News, Chicago Sun Time, and all-state in Illinois. In the off season, Steffes also trained for the Spikettes, a club team out of Chicago, Il.

"We are extremely pleased with this year's recruiting class. Anne, Jodi, and Meredith are all quality players who will represent Clemson University and our team exceptionally well.
