Clemson Falls in Four Games to Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Lady Seminole volleyball team combined outstanding hitting with an impressive fourth game rally to defeat previously unbeaten Clemson 15-13, 14-16, 15-4, 15-13 in front of 1,127 fans in Tully Gym. The win moved Florida State to 14-2, 2-1 in the ACC. Clemson dropped to 14-1 overall, 3-1 in the conference.

Florida State and Clemson battled back and forth through the first two games before the Lady Seminoles seemed to take control with its 15-4 win in game three. Clemson rebounded to take a 12-5 edge in the fourth game, but Florida State rallied to score 10 of the last 11 points for a 15-13 victory and the match.

Setter Fiona Bolton led the offensive attack for the Lady Seminoles with a career-high 62 assists and 7 kills. Kate Hemlepp and Susan Hawks also posted career-bests with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Aisha Thornton blasted 19 kills, the most by a Lady Seminole this season. Holly Schneider added a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs. Schneider and Laura Arnold also served up 3 aces each. Christy Minko led the defense with 15 digs.

For Clemson, Cindy Stern totaled 15 kills and 5 blocks to lead the Tigers. Alison Coday added 11 kills, 18 digs, and 4 service aces. Clemson, however, managed just a .149 hitting percentage which included 32 attack errors.

Florida State returns to action Sunday against Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. in Tully Gym. Clemson travels to Jacksonville for a Saturday match with the Dolphins.
