Individual Records Broken
Individually, three of the 1997 Tigers have placed themselves into the individual records. Senior setter Michelle Thieke had an outstanding .818 hitting percentage in Clemson's win against Sam Houston. This hitting percentage is the second best in Tiger volleyball history, behind Heidi Kahl's .910 hitting percentage in 1989 at Winthrop.
Another individual record now belongs to sophomore middle hitter Cindy Stern. Against Mississippi State, Stern tallied ten block assists which ties her for second place with Brenda Mailander. The first slot is held by Julie Marx who accumulated 12 against Bradley in 1989. Stern also placed her name in the third slot for most block assists when she knocked down nine against South Carolina.
The third member to add her name into the match records is sophomore Alison Coday who smashed 31 kills in the match against Florida State. These 31 kills rank second in match records for most kills in a single match. The top slot is held by Robin Kibben and Julie Rodriguez with 32 kills each. Coday also marked the record books when she tallied 67 attempts in a single match against Maryland on October 31st. These 67 attempts place her fourth for most attempts in a single match. The first place slot is currently held by Wendy Anderson who attempted 79 in a single match.
Stern Tallies Three Triple-Doubles
Sophomore Cindy Stern has managed to tally three triple-doubles in 1997. Stern's first two triple-doubles came in the same weekend when the Tigers defeated both Sam Houston (23 kills, 11 digs, 10 blocks) and Mississippi State (12 kills, 10 digs, 11 blocks). Then, in the Tigers' match-up against Maryland (24 kills, 12 digs, 11 blocks) Stern grabbed her third triple-double of 1997.
