Tigers Host N.C. State, North Carolina and FSU

The Clemson Tiger volleyball team managed a 1-1 record during last weekend's play. In Friday's battle with Virginia, Clemson defeated the Cavaliers in three games by scores 15-12, 15-10, and 15-6. On Saturday, the Tigers dropped a tough match to Maryland in a five-game match by scores 15-10, 15-6, 13-15, 8-15, and 15-12.

The Tigers now have a 17-3 overall record, 5-3 record in the ACC. The Tigers' next match-up is against N.C. State on Friday, October 24th at 7:00 pm, North Carolina on Saturday, October 25th at 6:00 pm, and Florida State on Sunday, October 26th at 3:00 pm. All three matches will be played in Clemson's Jervey Gym.

Tigers Off to a Strong Start
In the latest ACC statistics (October 13th), the Clemson Tigers have earned high rankings in many statistical categories.

TEAM:
* blocks per game (3.38 - 1st)
* assists per game (14.17 - 2nd)
* digs per game (15.31 - 5th)
* hitting percentage (.254 - 2nd)
* kills per game (15.58 - 2nd)
* service aces per game (1.76 - 6th)

Tigers In The NCAA
The Clemson Tiger volleyball team once again earned slots in the NCAA statistics for matches played through Sunday, October 12th. As a team, Clemson was ranked seventh in the nation by averaging 3.38 blocks per game. The Tigers were also ninth in the nation for match won-loss percentage (16-2, .889)

Individually, sophomore middle hitter Cindy Stern was ranked tenth in the nation for blocks per game (1.62).

Hoover Improves Record
Head volleyball coach Jolene Jordan Hoover entered the 1997 season with a 95-41 overall record after her first four years at Clemson. Now, in her fifth year as the Tigers' head coach, Hoover has already improved her Clemson record to 112-44, an outstanding .718 winning percentage. Hoover is just the second coach in Clemson history to win over 100 matches. Linda White (138) is the career leader.

Hoover reached another milestone by accumulating her 200th career win in the victory over Wake Forest, at home, on September 26th.

Clemson Matches on the Radio
Only one remaining Clemson match will be aired on WAHT-AM 1560. This match will be the upcoming Florida State battle on October 26 at 3:00 pm.

Broken Records
Two more records have been broken in Clemson match history. In the third game versus North Carolina, sophomore outside hitter Alison Coday tallied 10 kills which ties her for third place for most kills in a single game.

Sophomore middle hitter Cindy Stern also added her name to the record books when she knocked down 11 kills in the first game against Maryland. These 11 kills tie her for second in most kills in a single game.

Coday Tallies Double-Double
Sophomore outside hitter Alison Coday tackled an impressive statistical feat in the Tiger match-up with Maryland. In the five-game match, Coday knocked down 20 kills and 21 digs.

Only five other players in the history of Clemson volleyball have ever accomplished such a feat.

Stern With Another Triple-Double
After already charting two triple-doubles on the year, sophomore middle hitter Cindy Stern adds another. In the match against Maryland, Stern tallied 24 kills, 12 digs, and 11 blocks.

This marks the fourth triple-double of her career and only the 14th in Clemson volleyball history.
