SACRAMENTO, CA - Clemson's Silja Ulfarsdottir opened competition for the Lady Tigers at the 2005 NCAA Track and Field Championships on Thursday evening at Hornet Stadium at the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of Sacramento State University. The senior from Reykjavic, Iceland, turned in the seventh-fastest time of the qualifying round of the 400m hurdles to advance to Friday's semifinals. Ulfarsdottir crossed the finish line in 57.55, her fourth-fastest time of the season, en route to an automatic berth in Friday night's second round. That event is slated to begin at 12:00 AM ET.

Fellow senior Gisele Oliveira will begin competition at the national meet on Friday evening at 10:30 PM ET. The graduate from Porto Alegre, Brazil, enters the meet with the top mark in the nation. At the Clemson Invitational, Oliviera posted a mark of 45'9", a career-best effort as well as the Clemson, ACC and South American all-time standard.
