FAIRFAX, VA - The Clemson women's track and field competed at the NCAA East Region Championships on Friday on the campus of George Mason University. On day one, the Lady Tigers were led by Joana Costa and Gisele Oliveira who each posted runner-up performances. Costa cleared 12'10.25" to place second in the pole vault, while Oliveira took second in the long jump with a leap of 20'9". Both Costa and Oliveira automatically advance to the NCAA Championships to be held June 11-14 at California State University in Sacramento.

Lauren Nicholson also competed in the long jump on Friday, recording a mark of 18'11". The Lady Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Shannon Murray, Shakirah Rutherford, Denise Cruse and Danielle Whaley recorded a time of 45.90 in the preliminaries of the event. Shakirah Rutherford qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 59.42, while Silja Ulfarsdottir recorded a personal-best time of 59.46. Keshia Haughton competed in the 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 14.41 in the preliminaries.
