RANDALLS ISLAND, NY - The Clemson women's track and field team Gisele Oliveira and Silja Ulfarsdottir turned in top-five performances on the final day of competition at the 2005 NCAA East Region Championships. By merit of those performances, both Lady Tigers will represent Clemson at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held in Sacramento, CA, on June 8-11. Oliveira won the triple jump to earn her second East Region title, and Ulfarsdottir finished fourth in the 400m hurdles. As a team, Clemson finished in 13th place with 17 points.

Krystal Woods opened day two of competition for the Lady Tigers in the discus throw. The junior from Warminster, PA, posted a best-mark of 150'7" to finish in 12th place overall. It was the first event of the day for Woods, who also competed in the javelin throw. In her second event on Saturday, Woods recorded a mark of 133'4" to finish 23rd in the javelin competition. She concludes her junior year ranked second in the javelin throw (144'1"), fourth in the discus (153'10") and fourth in the hammer throw (167'1").

In the Lady Tigers' first event on the track, Silja Ulfarsdottir placed fourth in the finals of the 400m hurdles, improving on her fifth-place finish a year ago. She crossed the finish line in 57.53, her third-fastest time of the season. With that top-five finish, the senior from Reykjavic, Iceland, automatically qualified for her second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the intermediate hurdles.

Three Lady Tigers competed in the triple jump, led by senior All-American and NCAA Indoor Champion Gisele Oliveira. Oliveira, a senior from Porto Alegre, Brazil, captured the 2005 East Region title with a mark of 44'11.75". It is the second regional title for Oliveira. Renata Miyamoto finished 26th in her first region meet, posting a mark of 39'2.25". Michelle Rogers also competed in her first regional, but did not post a legal mark.

In Clemson's final event of the 2005 East Region Championships, the Lady Tigers' 4x400m relay of Silja Ulfarsdottir, Randi Hinton, Sierra Hill and Tia Perry finished in seventh place overall. Ulfarsdottir and Hinton held the lead in their heat, and the freshman duo of Hill and Perry helped bring home a second-place finish in the second section with a time of 3:39.09. It was the fastest time of the season for the Lady Tigers.
