Shakirah Rutherford And Gisele Oliveira Lead Lady Tigers On Day Two Of Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, GA - The Clemson women's track and field team completed competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday at the George C. Griffin Track. Shakirah Rutherford and Gisele Oliveira led the Lady Tigers on the second day of competition with season-best performances. Rutherford placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a season-best and regional qualifying time of 59.81. Oliveira tied her season-best effort and school-record mark of 43'11.75" in the triple jump as she claimed the event on Saturday.
In the 100m, Shannon Murray clocked a 12.04, while Danielle Whaley ran a 24.43 in the 200m. Denise Cruse completed the 400m in 56.39, and Marquita Dortch and Keshia Haughton recorded times of 14.24 and 14.36 in the 100m hurdles, respectively. Rutherford led three Lady Tigers in the 400m hurdles with her fourth-place finish (59.81). Silja Ulfarsdottir posted a regional qualifying time of 1:00.22 to place seventh, and Marquita Dortch finished in 1:02.34. The Lady Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Shannon Murray, Shakirah Rutherford, Denise Cruse and Danielle Whaley ran a 45.71 to finish fifth and regionally qualify, while the 4x400m relay team of Denise Cruse, Shakirah Rutherford, Lauren Nicholson and Silja Ulfarsdottir clocked a regional-qualifying 3:42.89 to place second.
In the field events, Oliveira won the triple jump with her leap of 43'11.75", and Joana Costa cleared 12'0" in the pole vault to place fifth. In the high jump, Katie Pickett cleared 5'5", while Krystal Woods recorded a mark of 141'9" in the discus throw. |
