Clemson Women's Track and Field Finishes Fifth At 2002 ACC Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Clemson women's track and field team finished fifth at the 2002 ACC Track and Field Championships held this weekend at the University of Virginia. North Carolina won the meet with 176.5 points, while Florida State was second with 128 points. Georgia Tech finished third (127 points) and NC State was fourth with 99.5 points. Clemson placed fifth with 99 points, and Virginia was sixth (92 points). Maryland tallied 49 points for seventh place, Wake Forest was eighth (29 points) and Duke finished ninth with 18 points. Marcia Smith finished second in the 400m dash with a provisional qualifying time of 53.34, and Silja Ulfarsdottir finished third in 53.97. Ulfarsdottir placed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.03, and Katrina Moultrie finished ninth with a time of 1:04.25. Clemson's 4x100m relay of Shannon Murray, Randi Hinton, Marcia Smith and Danielle Whaley placed second in the event with a time of 45.14. The Lady Tigers' 4x400m relay team finished second with a time of 3:41.03. Lauren Nicholson scored 4647 points to finish fourth in the heptathlon, and Keshia Haughton was 10th with 4208 points.
Jamine Moton claimed her second title of the meet in the shot put with an automatic qualifying mark of 16.89m/55'5", while teammate Jackie Hudgins placed fifth with a mark of 14.49m/47'6.5". Sheri Smith and Gisele Oliveira took second and third in the triple jump. Smith recorded a provisional mark of 13.12m/43'0.5", while Oliveira posted a mark of 12.77m/41'10.75".
The Clemson women's track and field team will compete at the 2002 Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA, Apr. 26-27. |
