Clemson Women's Track And Field Finishes Fourth At The 2003 ACC Outdoor Championships
April 19, 2003 RALEIGH, NC - The Clemson women's track and field team finished fourth at the 2003 ACC Outdoor Championships held this weekend at NC State's Paul Derr Track. North Carolina won the meet with 238 points, Florida State was the runner-up with 157 points, and Virginia finished third with 138 points. The Lady Tigers recorded 73 points to place fourth, Georgia Tech scored 64 points to place fifth, and NC State was sixth with 51 points. Wake Forest tallied 43 points for seventh-place, Duke scored 33 points for eighth-place, and Maryland finished ninth with 21 points. Clemson sophomore Gisele Oliveira set the Atlantic Coast Conference meet record in the triple jump, winning the event with a mark of 43'10". Lauren Nicholson also earned All-ACC honors, finishing third in the heptathlon with a NCAA-provisional point total of 5,036 points.
The Lady Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Shannon Murray, Shakirah Rutherford, Silja Ulfarsdottir and Danielle Whaley finished fourth with a regional qualifying time of 45.89. In the 100m hurdles, Marquita Dortch scored for the Lady Tigers with a seventh-place finish and time of 14.35. Shakirah Rutherford regionally qualified in the 400m with a time of 54.99 to place sixth, while Denise Cruse was a scorer with a time of 55.27 to place seventh. In the 100m, Danielle Whaley scored with a seventh-place finish and time of 12.06, and she was also a scorer in the 200m with a sixth-place finish in 24.38. Silja Ulfarsdottir was the top scorer for Clemson in the 400m hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 1:00.03. Marquita Dortch and Shakirah Rutherford were seventh and eighth in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:02.01 and 1:02.83, respectively. The Lady Tigers' 4x400m relay team of Denise Cruse, Shakirah Rutherford, Lauren Nicholson and Silja Ulfarsdottir finished third with a time of 3:41.94.
