Clemson Women's Track And Field Team Wins Eight Events At Solid Orange Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson women's track and field team won eight events at the Solid Orange Classic held at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex on Saturday. The Lady Tigers captured the 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, 4x400m relay, shuttle hurdle relay, high jump, pole vault and javelin throw in their final meet prior to the ACC Championships. Another Lady Tiger highlight was the regional qualification and career-best peformance of Krystal Woods in the javelin throw. In the running events, Danielle Whaley recorded a time of 12.11 in the 100m dash to place fourth. In the 200m dash, Silja Ulfarsdottir placed third with her season-best time of 24.27, while Randi Hinton, Daniellle Whaley and Tia Perry finished sixth through eighth, with times of 24.55, 25.07 and 25.31, respectively. Patrice McMillan crossed the finish line in a season-best 2:16.42 to claim the 800m, and in the 1500m run, Casey Phillips clocked a season-best 4:40.85 to win the event. Jennifer Barton turned in another career-best time of 11:11.66 in the 3000m steeplechase, as she re-set her own school record to win that event. Sierra Hill placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.32, followed by Renata Miyamoto at 14.47 in fourth place, and Tia Perry in sixth place with a time of 14.55. Multi-event athlete Jessica Earp also competed in the 100m hurdles, registering a time of 17.32. Clemson's 4x400m relay team of Ulfarsdottir, Hinton, Hill and Perry won the event with a time of 3:44.31.
In the field events, Tia Perry placed fourth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 18'3". Renata Miyamoto and Michelle Rogers finished second and third in the triple jump with season-best marks of 40'0.75" and 39'11.5", respectively. Freshman Anni Korhonen cleared a season-best 5'5.75" in her win in the high jump. Sara Young won the pole vault with a regional qualifying clearance of 12'5.5", while Beth Jordan placed third in the event with a mark of 11'5.75". Allison Bradshaw and Della Clark finished in second and third-place in the shot put with marks of 43'11.75" and 43'9.75", respectively. Krystal Woods led the Lady Tigers in the discus with a second-place finish and mark of 151'6". Mikaela Patterson placed fourth in the discus (136'6") and Catheryne Porter's mark of 128'8" placed her sixth. Della Clark was the runner-up in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 167'6", while Krystal Woods placed third with her season-best mark of 165'9". Mikaela Patterson finished fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 164'4", and Allison Bradshaw was sixth with a mark of 144'5". Krystal Woods claimed the javelin throw with a career-best and regional qualifying mark of 142'8", while Christina Moore was seventh with a mark of 107'10". The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday, Apr. 21, as they begin competition at the ACC Championships. This year's conference meet will be held in Tallahassee, FL, and will conclude on Saturday, Apr. 23. |
