Lady Tiger Track & Field Claims First at Clemson Invitational

Clemson, SC - The Lady Tiger track & field team scored 280 points and finished first in the team totals at the Clemson Invitational. A total of three athletes posted regional-qualifying marks on Saturday, including two throwers from Clemson. Randi Hinton was runner-up in the 100m dash with a time of 12.06, while Polly Hardy was third at 12.47 seconds. Hinton was also runner-up in the 200m, posting a season-best time of 24.48. Hardy was fourth at 25.28, while Tonya Nwankwo was 12th in 27.22 seconds. In the 400m, Ope Sobanjo was fourth after posting a time of 1:00.66. Patrice McMillan won the 800m with a time of 2:13.18, her outdoor best this season. She held off Thea Dix, who was runner-up in 2:14.01. Candice Johnson was fifth with a personal best time of 2:20.53. Caroline Rash (2:29.45), Lisa Brown (2:31.93), and Soumiya Iyer (3:04.72) also competed in that event for Clemson. Casey Phillips won the 1500m run with a time of 4:50.56, which was her season-best performance in that event. Ashley Robinson was third in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:16.36.
Sunday Ford claimed the 5000m after a strong sprint on the last lap. She finished with a time of 18:01.32, which was her season-best. Jenny Barton was runner-up at 18:12.14, while Lauren Marriott came home sixth in 20:28.48.
Clemson claimed the top two spots in the 100m hurdles. Polly Hardy set her season-best at 14.09 to finish first, while Renata Miyamoto was runner-up in 14.27 seconds. Sierra Hill was fifth with a time of 15.01. Hill was runner-up in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.27. Tia Perry finished third in that event in 1:03.82, while Sobanjo was sixth at 1:08.96. The Lady Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Miyamoto, Hinton, Hill, and Hardy edged Western Carolina's B team for first with a time of 46.90 seconds. The team of Hinton, Hill, Miyamoto, and Sobanjo finished first in 3:48.25 in the 4x400m relay, two spots ahead of the Clemson B team of Dix, Johnson, Rash, and McMillan (3:57.80). Miyamoto was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 18'1". Krystal Barringer hit a mark of 16'2.5" to finish fourth. Miyamoto won the triple jump with a mark of 40'4", just shy of a regional mark. She was followed by Michelle Rogers (40'0.5"), Barringer (37'5.25"), and Nwankwo (36'7"); giving the Lady Tigers the top four spots in that event. Anni Korhonen claimed the high jump title after clearing 5'5". Katie Farnan of Clemson also competed in that event; she was fifth overall at 5'3". Beth Jordan claimed a fifth-place finish in the pole vault after clearing a season-best 10'11.75". In the discus, Catheryne Porter was second with a personal best toss of 137'9". Finishing third was Krystal Woods with a mark of 137'6". Della Clark also competed and was seventh at 114'10". Clark won the shot put with a throw of 42'11.5", while Porter was seventh at 33'11.5". Clark and Rochelle Kokayko both posted regional marks in the hammer throw competition. Clark won the event after a season-best toss of 180'11", while Kokayko (179') posted her second regional-qualifying mark of the season. Woods was third with a season-best effort of 173'9", while Allison Bradshaw (149'11") was fifth and Porter (127'8.5") was 11th. Woods claimed the event title in the javelin throw after posted a mark of 134'8" in the finals of that event. It was her first event title this season. Rochelle Kokayko and Rachel McLaurin also competed in that event for Clemson. Freshman thrower Kokayko was ninth with a throw of 89'0", while McLaurin was 10th at 79'5.5". The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 15 to host the Solid Orange Classic at the Rock Norman Track & Field Complex.
