Clemson WomenÕs Tennis Falls to No. 19 Wake Forest
March 10, 2001 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 53rd-ranked Clemson womenÕs tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 19th-ranked Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Leighton Tennis Stadium in Winston-Salem. The Tigers drop to 5-6, 0-1 in the ACC on the season while the Demon Deacons improve to 6-5, and 1-0 in the ACC. The lone singles victory of the day for Clemson was posted by sophomore Ana Stiglic at the number five position over Aimee Smith by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Ana Savitskaya of Clemson dropped her number one singles match to 3rd-ranked Bea Bielik of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Tiger Christina Oldock fell to No. 15 Janet Bergman in the two spot, 6-0, 6-1. ClemsonÕs Milena Stanoycheva lost to Maren Haus (#57) by a score of 6-4, 6-3 at three singles. At four singles, Laurence Jayet of Clemson dropped a three-set match to Wake ForestÕs Jackie Houston 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-3. Tiger Ana Dolinska was defeated by a score of 6-7, 7-6, 10-5 in the six slot by Elizabeth Proctor. Clemson won two out of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point for the Tigers. ClemsonÕs Stiglic and Oldock teamed up at two doubles to defeat Wake ForestÕs Haus and Smith, 9-7. At the three doubles position, the TigersÕ Jayet and Stanoycheva earned a 8-2 victory over Houston and Proctor. Wake ForestÕs 3rd-ranked doubles team of Bergman and Bielik won at number one doubles over Savitskaya and Dolinska, 8-2. Clemson will travel to Raleigh, NC to take on N.C. State Sunday afternoon at 12:30. The Tigers will return to Clemson to play the University of Houston on Saturday, March 17 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center at 11 am.
