Orlando, FL - The 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship began with the No. 8 seeded Clemson Tigers defeating the No. 7 seeded NC State Wolfpack 4-2 at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.

The Tigers began singles with a 1-0 start after winning the doubles point. With victories from Anna Savitskaya at No. 1 singles, Christina Oldock at No. 2 singles and Laurence Jayet at No. 5 singles, Clemson advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday.

NC State received wins from Jackie Leskovar, who downed Milena Stanoytcheva 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 and Myrna Bowano, who defeated Ania Dolinska at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-1.

Clemson improves its record to 9-13 while NC State drops to 8-14. The Tigers will face the No. 2 seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Friday, April 20 at 12:00 noon.
