Clemson Women's Tennis Falls to North Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to 20th-ranked North Carolina Saturday afternoon in Clemson. The Tigers drop to 8-12 overall and 1-6 in the ACC while the Tar Heels improve to 14-5 overall and 5-2 in the ACC. At number one doubles, Clemson's Anna Savitskaya and Laurence Jayet lost a 9-8 (6) decision to Kenderick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck while UNC's Marlene Meija and Julie Rotundi defeated Ana Stiglic and Christina Oldock 8-1 at two doubles. Erin Niebling and Courtney Zalinski completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Milena Stanoycheva and Anna Dolinska. In singles, Clemson's top-seeded Anna Savitskaya lost to Marlene Meija 6-2, 6-3, and the Tar Heels' Julie Rotondi defeated second-seeded Christina Oldock 6-3, 6-3. At three singles, Milena Stanoycheva lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision to UNC's Kate Pinchbeck and Kristin Koenig defeated Ana Stiglic 6-3, 7-5, at four singles. Fifth-seeded Laurence Jayet lost to North Carolina's Lee Bairos 6-1, 6-3, and the Tar Heels' sixth seed, Courtney Zalinski defeated the Tigers' Sunnie Harmon 6-2, 6-2. Clemson will conclude its regular season schedule tomorrow. The Tigers host second-ranked Duke at 12:00 p.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
