Clemson Women's Tennis Team Defeats Maryland 5-2 On Saturday

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The 25th-ranked Clemson women's tennis team defeated Maryland on Saturday by a score of 5-2 in College Park. With the win, the Tigers improve to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the ACC, while Maryland falls to 8-6 and 0-2 in conference play. Maryland won at flight one and two doubles to win the team doubles point. At flight one, the Tigers' 59th-ranked duo of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie lost an 8-6 decision to the Terrapins' team of Ramona But and Marta Jedrzejak. The Tigers' Richele LeSaldo and Ana Stiglic fell to Chloe Chavardes and Emily Marker of Maryland by a score of 8-4 at two doubles. Clemson won at number three doubles by default. In singles action, 21st-ranked Julie Coin of Clemson defeated But by a score of 6-2, 6-3 at flight one. The Tigers' Lacelarie won a 6-4, 6-4 decision at flight two singles over Marker. Alvarez defeated Jedrzejak, 6-4, 6-7 (9-7), 10-5 at number three singles, while the Tigers' Laurence Jayet dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Jennifer Dent at flight four. Clemson's Ioana Paun was victorious over Chavardes at number five singles by a score of 6-3, 6-4, while the Tigers won at six singles by default. Clemson will travel to Charlottesville, VA to take on 22nd-ranked Virginia on Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center on Virginia's campus.
