GAINESVILLE, FL - The #21 Clemson women's tennis team fell to the fifth-ranked Florida Gators by a score of 6-1 in Gainesville on Friday night. The Tigers' top-seeded Julie Coin claimed Clemson's only point, defeating Florida's number-one player, Julie Scaringe, in three sets. Alix Lacelarie and Daniela Alvarez won their match at flight two doubles, and Lacelarie and Ioana Paun battled to three-set losses in their singles matches. With the loss, Clemson's record stands at 12-3 overall, while Florida improves to 15-2.

The University of Florida claimed two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. At flight one doubles, Florida's Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes defeated Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet, 8-4. Clemson's Alix Lacelarie and Daniela Alvarez teamed up to take an 8-6 victory over the Gators' Alexis Gordon and Julie Rotundi at flight two doubles. Lindsay Dawaf and Julie Scaringe of Florida defeated Richele LeSaldo and Anna Dolinska at flight three doubles by a score of 8-0.

In singles play, Clemson's top-seeded Julie Coin, who is ranked #25, defeated 37th-ranked Julie Scaringe in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. The Tigers' Daniela Alvarez fell to 15th-ranked Lindsay Dawaf at flight two by a score of 7-6 (2), 6-2. At flight three singles, Clemson's Alix Lacelarie dropped a hard-fought 6-7 (1), 6-0, 10-5 match to 29th-ranked Zerene Reyes. The Gators' 12th-ranked Alexis Gordon defeated Clemson's Laurence Jayet 6-2, 6-1 at flight four singles. At flight five singles, 55th-ranked Jennifer Magley of Florida defeated Ana Stiglic by a score of 6-1, 6-0. The Gators' Boglarka Berecz defeated Clemson's Ioana Paun in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to claim the flight six singles match.

 

 

Clemson returns to action on Mar. 29 and 30, facing ACC foes Maryland and Virginia on the road.
