Athens, Ga. - Second-ranked Georgia defeated Clemson 6-1 Thursday in women's tennis action at the Dan Magill Tennis Center. Georgia moved to 7-1 after the victory while the Tigers dropped to 5-4 on the year. The lone singles victory of the day for Clemson was posted by freshman Anna Dolinska at the number six flight. She defeated Christa Grey 6-4, 7-5. The number one singles match was a hotly contested battle between Georgia's Mariel Verban and Clemson's Anna Savitskaya, who played for an injured Carmina Giraldo. The players split the first two sets and opted to play a 10-point match tiebreaker instead of a third set. Verban took the match after her 10-6 win in the tiebreaker. Savitskaya and Dolinska managed to score a victory in doubles by defeating the team of Verban and Christa Grey 8-4.

Georgia jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in singles after straight set wins by Tina Hojnik and Lori Grey at the number four and two slots. Agata Cioroch improved her record to 7-0 and clinched the match for Georgia with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ana Stiglic. Ann Nguyen defeated Milena Stanoytcheva 6-3, 6-2 and Georgia secured two victories in doubles to win the point and make the final margin 6-1.

Clemson will host a match-up with 19th-ranked South Carolina on Saturday.
