Lady Tigers Defeat UNC Greensboro, 9-0

CLEMSON, SC - Clemson won all six singles matches in straight sets to register a 9-0 women's tennis victory over UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers improved to 2-1 with the triumph. Carmina Giraldo, a sophomore from Columbia, South America, won the number-one singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jenny Gonzalez of UNC-G. It was the second victory of the weekend for Clemson's number-one player. She upset Esther Knox of Georgia, the number-eight ranked player in the nation, on Friday in a 6-4, 6-3 triumph. Clemson's Renatha Brito did not lose a game in defeating Kelly Edwards of UNC Greensboo, 6-0, 6-0. Laurence Jayet, just a freshman, won over Amanda Eutzler, 6-0, 6-1. Catherine Galvin, Cinthia Clausen and Anna Savitskaya also gained singles victories for Nancy Harris's team.
