Clemson Women's Tennis Falls to MTSU

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson Tiger women's tennis team was defeated by Middle Tennessee State Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fell to the Lady Raiders by a score of 4-3. The loss brings Clemson's record to 3-2 on the season. At number one singles, Clemson's Carmina Giraldo fell in a three-set match to Manon Kruse, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0. Senior Tiger Christina Oldock downed her Lady Raider opponent, Inge Weirich, 7-6 (1), 6-4, in the two slot. Anna Savitskaya of Clemson was defeated by a score of 6-3, 6-4 at number three singles by Tanja Buchheim of MTSU. Clemson's Laurence Jayet and Milena Stanoycheva fell in the four and five singles positions respectively, to Michaela Gridling (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) and Carien Venter (6-3, 7-5). Tiger Ana Stiglic was victorious in the six singles spot over Stacy Varnell by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Clemson was able to earn the doubles point with victories in the number two and three positions. The Tigers' Stanoycheva and Anna Dolinska overcame Weirich and Venter, 8-3, in the two slot. At three doubles, Oldock and Jayet of Clemson teamed up to defeat Lady Raiders Niger Kaur and Gridling, 8-5. Clemson's Giraldo and Savitskaya fell in the one doubles spot to Kruse and Varnell by a score of 8-4. Clemson (3-2) will travel to Blacksburg, VA to take on Wyoming and Virginia Tech on Feb. 17th and 18th, respectively. The Tigers next home match will take place on Saturday, March 3 at noon against the University of South Carolina at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
