Clemson Women's Tennis Defeats Furman, 6-1

GREENVILLE, SC - The ninth-ranked Tiger women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the year with a victory over Furman on Tuesday afternoon. Clemson swept the doubles matches and won five singles positions for the 6-1 win. At the top doubles spot, Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem defeated the Paladin tandem of Laura Gioia and Natasa Marojlovic by an 8-3 margin. The Tiger duo of Ani Mijacika and Estefania Balda then posted an 8-5 victory at flight two over Lauren Osborne and Monica Arguello, while Alexandra Luc and Ina Hadziselimovic teamed for an 8-2 win against Furman's Lauren Tomory and Christina Swindell. Balda won her singles contest at the number two position over Monica Arguello (6-3, 6-3), while #4-ranked Mijacika also recorded a straight set victory, defeating Osborne, 6-1, 6-3, at flight three. Hadziselimovic, who was celebrating her birthday on Tuesday, defeated Jessica Preeg at flight four, 7-6(6), 6-2. Van Adrichem, ranked 53rd in the FILA/ITA singles poll, won easily over Tomory at the number six position (6-0, 6-1), and Luc dropped just one game as well at flight six with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Marojlovic. The Tigers will return to action this weekend, as they will play host to Purdue and Virginia Commonwealth at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. #9 Clemson 6, Furman 1
