CLEMSON, SC -- Lea Shreve and Lissa Mansberry both scored goals in leading Clemson to a 2-0 upset win over fourth-ranked William & Mary in the Clemson Womens Soccer Invitational at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.
William & Mary, ranked fourth in the NSCAA poll is the highest team the Lady Tigers have ever defeated in the programs history. The Tribe was also ranked eighth by Soccer America. Clemson is ranked 11th in both the NSCAA and Soccer America polls. Clemson improves its record to 4-2 overall, while William & Mary falls to 3-2 on the season.
The Lady Tigers scored late in the first half (37:46). Sara Burkett, who finished with two assists on the afternoon, fed freshman Lea Shreve on the left side. Shreves diagonal shot from 18 yards out went to the upper right corner of the goal, giving the Lady Tigers the advantage.
Clemson scored early in the second half (50:44). Mansberry scored from close range off a rebound that hit the post. Burkett and Sheri Bueter were credited with assists.
The Lady Tigers will play at Furman Wednesday, September 17, in Clemsons next action.
