CLEMSON, S.C. -- Sara Burkett scored the winning goal with 6:03 remaining in leading ninth-ranked Clemson to a 2-1 win over Georgia in a women's intercollegiate soccer match at Riggs Field Thursday night.
With the win, Clemson improves to 9-2 overall, while Georgia falls to 9-3-1 this season. The Lady Tigers are ranked ninth by Soccer America and 12th by the coaches poll.
Burkett scored the winning goal at the 83:57 mark. Crawford passed the ball to Burkett at the top of the box. Burkett faked left and went right as the goalkeeper came charging out of the goal. Burkett sent a bending shot from 18 yards out to the right post and into the net for the game winner.
Burkett has now scored five goals this season and has 10 assists. The 10 assists is tied for the second most in a single season by a Lady Tiger. Jennifer Crawford scored Clemsons first goal at the 37:05 mark. Crawford now has 11 goals this season which is tied for the fifth most by a Lady Tiger in a single season.
Bentley Bickerstaff scored for Georgia to even the score at the 66:52 mark. She was assisted by Mandy Aiken. This was Bickerstaffs third goal of the season.
Clemson will play at Maryland on Sunday in a key ACC battle.
