CLEMSON, SC -- The Clemson Women's Soccer Team knocked off fifth ranked Virginia 2-0 tonight at Rigg's Field. Clemson improves to 11-4 overall, 4-2 in the ACC, while Virginia drops to 12-2-2 overall, 3-2 in the ACC.
Clemson was led by junior Sara Burkett who scored the Lady Tigers' winning goal at the 44:41 mark of the first half on a double assist from Libby King and Jackie Cooper. It was the sixth goal of the year for Burkett. Clemson added an insurance goal at the 69:03 mark of the second half. Amy Gray beat a defender and the goalie to score with an assist from Sheri Bueter. Bueter is currently second on the all-time points list in Clemson Women's Soccer history with 64 points.
This marks the third win of the season versus a ranked team, the second against a team ranked in the top-five. The Lady Tigers defeated a fourth ranked William and Mary team earlier this season. Clemson, ranked 17th according to Soccer America, looks to record another upset this Sunday. The number one ranked North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Clemson on Sunday, October 26, 1997. The battle of ranked teams will take place at Rigg's Field at 2:00 pm.
