Box Score

CLEMSON, SC - The Lady Tiger soccer team dropped a 2-1 double-overtime decision to Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Riggs Field. The Demon Deacons scored the game winner in the 101st minute of play to improve to 8-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson falls to 8-3-4 (1-2-4 ACC) with the loss. Clemson has now advanced to overtime in six of its last seven games and has a 1-1-4 record in those contests.

The Lady Tigers outshot Wake Forest 20 to 11 and took eight corner kicks to the Demon Deacons' one. Clemson goalkeeper Ashley Phillips recorded three saves, while Wake Forest's Amanda Barasha posted nine.

After a scoreless first half, Wake Forest took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute with a goal by Whitney Berry. The Demon Deacons' Kaley Fountain sent the ball toward the goal. Following a miscommunication among the Lady Tiger defense, Berry got the ball right in front of the goal and was able to put it in the net.

With less than five minutes left in regulation, the Lady Tigers tied the score at 1-1 when freshman forward Samantha Fortier scored her fifth goal of the season. Fortier took a shot that bounced off the hands of Wake Forest goalkeeper Amanda Barasha. Fortier followed her first shot with a second that she put in the net at the 85:21 mark.

Just 29 seconds into the second overtime period, Samantha Germano netted the game-winning goal for the Demon Deacons.

"This one was definitely a heartbreaker," said Head Coach Todd Bramble. "We have certainly proved that we are a resilient team. We had to come from behind again against a very good Wake Forest team to send the game into overtime, which really shows a lot about our character."

"There really wasn't a moment when I thought we were going to lose this game. I wasn't sure if we could win it, but I didn't think we were going to lose it and it took a great play to beat us. My heart really goes out to our team. This can be a cruel game."

The Lady Tigers will travel to Coral Gables, FL on Saturday, October 27 to face Miami. The game between Clemson and the Hurricanes will be played at 7:00 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on Miami's campus.
