BLACKSBURG, VA - The 19th-ranked Lady Tiger soccer team tied Virginia Tech 1-1 in double-overtime on Thursday night at the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium in Blacksburg, VA. Clemson is now 8-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Hokies have a 4-5-3 overall record and a 0-3-2 mark in league play.
This was the second straight year that the Lady Tigers and the Hokies have played to a double-overtime tie, as the teams finished in a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes of play last season in Blacksburg. Clemson now has a 2-0-2 record in the series against Virginia Tech and the Lady Tigers are now 1-0-2 in overtime games this season.
Clemson took 16 shots in the match to the Hokies' 11, and the Lady Tigers had five corner kicks to Virginia Tech's four. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Phillips posted two saves in the game for Clemson, while Ashley Owens recorded three for the Hokies.
The Lady Tigers put the game's first goal on the board in the 64th minute of play when red-shirt senior midfielder Courtney Foster scored her fourth goal of the season. Foster netted a shot from 15 yards out on the left side of the box to give Clemson the 1-0 lead.
Marika Gray tied the game for the Hokies with a goal in the final minute of regulation to send the game into overtime. She was assisted by Emily Jukich on the play.
The Lady Tigers' best chance to win the game came in the 104th minute of play on a corner kick. Samantha Fortier took the kick, which was kept in near the top of the box by Molly Franklin and sent to Nuria Zufia in front of the goal. Zufia's shot was just wide to the right of the goal.
"I am very disappointed in the way that we mismanaged the end of the game," said Head Coach Todd Bramble. "We were in control and should have held on and won. It is hard enough to win on the road in the ACC and to lose a game like that is very upsetting."

Clemson will remain in the state of Virginia for its third consecutive conference road match as it takes on third-ranked University of Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday, October 14. The contest will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Klockner Stadium on the campus of the Cavaliers.
