CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson women's soccer team played to a 2-2 double overtime draw against Virginia Tech on Thursday night at Riggs Field. Following the tie, the Tigers are 4-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Hokies are 5-4-2 (0-1-2 ACC).

Senior forward Julie Bolt put the Tigers on the board at the 14:03 mark with her ninth goal of the season. Junior midfielder Lindsey Jackson played the ball to Bolt who dribbled past a Hokie defender and put the ball into the lower right corner of the net.

The Hokies responded in the 36th minute when junior Julian Johnson scored on a double-assist by sophomores Kelsey Billups and Kelly Lynch. Johnson's goal knotted the score at 1-1 heading into the half.

Freshman forward Sarah Jacobs scored her second goal of the season, and of her career, in the 72nd minute of play for the Tigers. Junior midfielder Molly Franklin carried the ball to the right side of the field and crossed it in front to Jacobs, who put it into the net off the right post to give Clemson a 2-1 lead.

Virginia Tech scored with just 38 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime. Senior Laurie Beth Puglisi netted the Hokie goal, with an assist by senior Kim Hickey. The two teams played two ten-minute scoreless overtime periods and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Tigers took 12 shots in the game to the Hokies' 15 and had three corner kicks to Virginia Tech's seven. Sophomore Paula Pritzen recorded nine saves in goal for Clemson while freshman Kristin Carden tallied three for the Hokies.

"We knew going into it that this was a big game, with both teams fighting for points in the conference," said head coach Hershey Strosberg following the match. "We put ourselves in a good position to win. Julie Bolt continues to play well and she and Tara Cort are a good combination up front. Paula (Pritzen) also responded in this game and came up with some big saves. The unfortunate reality is that we continue to give up goals off of minor losses of focus.

"That being said, we will take the point in the conference standings," he added. "Now we have to turn around and get ready for a good game on Sunday,"

Clemson will return to action on Sunday, October 5 as it plays host to 10th-ranked Virginia. The contest between the Tigers and Cavaliers is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Riggs Field.
