Women's Soccer Upset by Wake Forest, 2-1
Sept. 17, 1999 WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Rachael Lewis scored one goal and assisted on the other in leading Wake Forest to a 2-1 upset win over 12th-ranked Clemson in an Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer match at Winston-Salem, NC late Friday night. With the win, Wake Forest improves to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 5-2 overall, 0-1 in league play. Clemson is ranked 12th in the Soccer America poll and 18th in the NSCAA listing.
Wake Forest took a 2-0 lead at the half. At the 30:12 mark, the Deacons' Sarah Kate Noftsinger scored from six yards out after passes by Anne Shropshire and Lewis. Lewis scored the second goal for Wake Forest at the 42:30 mark from 10 yards out as she knocked in a loose ball. Clemson scored late in the game at the 83:43 point as Beth Keller rifled a 25 yard shot in for her third goal of the year. The Tigers will play at North Carolina Sunday night at 6:30 p.m.
