Player Profile
Position:
Assistant Coach

Tatum Clowney is in her second season as an assistant coach at Clemson. She was a volunteer assistant coach in 2006, her first season with the Lady Tigers.

Clowney is certainly not a stranger to the Clemson women's soccer program, however. She was a member of the Lady Tiger team from 1998-2001 during which time the program had some of its most successful seasons, advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16 all four years and the Elite Eight two seasons and winning the only ACC regular season title in program history in 2000.

Before coming to Clemson as a coach, Clowney spent two years at Charleston Southern University where she helped bring in the most decorated recruiting class ever at the university. Soccer Buzz ranked the Buccaneers' recruiting class the best in the Big South and in the top-25 regionally. While in Charleston, Clowney also coached the Mount Pleasant Soccer Club team.

Before her tenure at Charleston Southern, Clowney spent one year coaching at Converse College during the 2003 season. She has served on the coaching staff for the state Olympic Development Program team for the last three years and has also coached for the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (CESA).

Clowney is currently coaching the 1994 South Carolina Olympic Development Program team. She is also working with the Clemson-Anderson Soccer Alliance (CASA) program.

Clowney played at Clemson during the 1998-2001 seasons. The Lady Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament all four years of Clowney's Clemson career. The team reached the Elite Eight in 1999 and 2000 and advanced to the Sweet 16 all four seasons. Clowney scored a goal in the Lady Tigers' 2-0 victory over Florida State in the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2000. That team won the ACC regular season title and finished the season ranked fifth in the final NSCAA poll.

Clowney scored 10 goals and recorded 18 assists during her career as a Lady Tiger. The 18 assists tallied in 77 games still rank her in ninth place in Clemson history for career assists.

As a player at Clemson, Clowney was named the Most Improved Player in 1999. She was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2001 and 2002. She also received the ACC Top Six Award for her dedication to community service.

Clowney was a member of the Region III South Team that won the gold medal in the 2001 Olympic Festival in Chicago, IL. She was also a member of the National "B" team player pool in 2001. She played professionally for the W-1 team Charlotte Speed in 1999 and the W-1 team Atlanta Classics in 2000 and 2001.

Clowney is a native of Greenville, SC and a graduate of Eastside High School. She was named all-state three times during her high school soccer career and was the South Carolina State Player-of-the-Year twice.

Clowney graduated from Clemson with honors in 2002 with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. In 2005, she earned a Masters degree in Education from Charleston Southern.
