Rowing Medals at Head of the Hooch

CLEMSON, SC - Clemson rowing took first place in the Women's Championship 4+ and Women's Freshmen Novice 8+ at the Head of the Hooch in Gainesville, GA today. The Tigers finished ahead of Miami (FL), Texas, and ACC rivals Duke and North Carolina as well as numerous others in the largest fall regatta in the southeast. The rowing team competed in seven of the day's events.

Clemson's novice rowers raced in the Women's Freshmen Novice 8+ to take first with a time of 18:09.0 beating out Texas for the win. In the Women's Freshmen Novice 4+ the Tigers took second (20:19.3) and third (20:40.2) losing the win to Miami by only a second. The novice also rowed in the Women's Collegiate and Club Novice 8+ where they took second with a time of 19:32.2 Miami earned first in this race while the Tigers' finished ahead of North Carolina and Texas.

In the varsity events, Clemson rowed to a first place finish in the Women's Championship 4+. The Tigers earned the win by a 17 second margin over Miami with a time of 19:25.6. Clemson's second boat in the race finished fourth in 19:49.1. In the Women's Championship 8+ the Tigers took second and ninth in 17:34.6 and 18:15.4, respectively. Duke won the race in 17:32.0 while Clemson finished ahead of Texas, Miami, and North Carolina. Clemson also earned second (20:30.5) and sixth (20:53.5) place in the Women's Club 4+.
 

 

"It was a day of great racing," said head coach Susie Lueck. "All the boats gave solid performances. We are proud of them and are looking forward to the spring season."

The Tigers will return to action in March with the Clemson Challenge against North Carolina.
