Clemson held Pittsburgh to 20 percent shooting from the field in a 51-38 women's basketball victory at Littlejohn Coliseum. The win, which was Clemson's third straight, put the Lady Tigers at an even 4-4 on the season. With the loss, Pittsburgh fell to 6-3.
"This is a young team that needs to make some strides," said Jim Davis, head coach of the Lady Tigers. "We've got three real good chances to make some on the road next week."
Amanda White led the Lady Tigers with her first double-double of the season, totaling 13 points and 13 rebounds. She hit 6-10 from the field, while also contributing three assists, two steals, and a block. Julie Talley also scored in double figures for the Lady Tigers. Talley had 12 points and hit 3-8 from behind the three-point line.
Reggie Maddox had a solid game, scoring eight points, dishing out four assists, grabbing six rebounds, and collecting four steals.
Clemson outrebounded Pittsburgh 54-53, but the Panthers were able to grab 27 rebounds off the offensive glass. The Panthers shot just 15-74 from the field, however. Marcedes Walker led Pittsburgh with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
In the first half, the Lady Tigers made a run before heading into the locker room. After Pittsburgh cut the lead to 21-19, Clemson responded with a 9-2 run to end the first half. In the second, the two teams combined for just 38 points. Clemson held the Panthers without a point for the final six minutes and 49 seconds of the game.
The Lady Tigers do not play again at home until January 2, when Georgetown comes to Clemson. The Lady Tigers play at Wagner and Rutgers next Thursday and Saturday, before traveling to Tupelo, MS to take on Mississippi on December 21.
