TEMPE, AZ - The Clemson Lady Tigers basketball team fell to 17th-ranked Vanderbilt, 86-49, on Nov. 12 at the fourth annual WBCA/BTI Classic in Tempe, AZ. The Commodores evened their season record at 1-1 as they suffered a loss to #20 Arizona State on Friday. Clemson is now 0-2 overall.
Julie Talley led the Lady Tigers with 14 points on 4-5 shooting from behind the three-point arc. Sophomore center Adrianne Bradshaw had another solid performance for Clemson, scoring nine points and collecting six rebounds in the game. Amanda Frist fell one rebound shy of her 500th career board after recording four on Friday night versus Missouri and four against Vanderbilt on Saturday.
The Commodores had five different players score in double figures in the contest and shot 56.3 percent from the field for the game. Nicole Jules led the way with 18 points while Liz Sherwood collected a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Tigers held the advantage for much of the first half, but Vanderbilt took a 24-22 lead with six minutes left that they did not relinquish. Talley hit four three-pointers early in the half to aid the Clemson effort, but the Commodores went on an eight-point scoring run late in the first period to take a 30-22 lead. The Lady Tigers narrowed the gap to five points on two occasions, trailing 34-29 after Adrianne Bradshaw completed a three-point play and then again moments later as Talley hit two free throws for Clemson's 30th and 31st points. Vanderbilt's Nicole Jules and Dee Davis each scored 12 points in the half and the Commodores took a 45-33 lead into the break.
Vanderbilt dominated the second half, outscoring the Lady Tigers, 41-16, in the period. The Commodores shot 60% from the field while holding Clemson to five field goals en route to an 86-49 victory.
