Indianapolis, IN - Travis Padgett finished second in the first heat of the 100m dash Thursday at the USA Outdoor Championships and advanced to the semifinal round in the event. The meet is being held at the Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

Padgett continued his fierce competition with Walter Dix of Florida State in the first round. Dix had a slight upper-hand on Thursday, winning the first prelim with a time of 10.08. Padgett clocked a 10.13. The two sprinters have pushed each other at the ACC, East Region, and national level over the past two years. Padgett was the NCAA champion in the 60m dash this indoor season, while Dix was the 100m national champion outdoors.

Former Clemson sprinter Shawn Crawford also advanced in the 100m qualifying. He posted a time of 10.14 and was fourth in his heat. He qualified on time for the semifinals, which will be held Friday at 6:10 PM, with the final slated for 8:52 PM. The final will be televised live by ESPN-2.

Also on Friday, former Clemson All-American George Kitchens will compete in the long jump at 6:00 PM. He is competing unattached and holds a qualifying mark of nearly 26'0" this season.
