Clemson, SC - The men's track & field team finished 25th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships over the weekend. It marked the first time since 2002 the Tigers placed in the top 25 at the national outdoor meet. Clemson accumulated 12 points and five student-athletes were named All-American.
"Our guys did a good job," said Bob Pollock, 19th-year head coach of the Tigers. "We scored more points than we did last year and finished ahead of some of the top programs in the country. We had six All-America performances, so that was good to see."
The Tigers finished 15th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, giving Pollock's program a top-25 team finish in both settings this season. The last time that occurred at Clemson was in 2002, when the Tigers were seventh indoors and tied for fourth at the outdoor meet. Pollock has now guided the Tiger track & field program to top-25 indoor and outdoor finishes in the same season a total of 11 times in his coaching career.
Travis Padgett earned multiple All-America honors after a third-place finish in the 100m dash and seventh-place showing with the 4x100m relay squad. Corey Brown, Cowin Mills, and C.J. Spiller each earned their first All-America certificate with the Tiger track & field team as the other three members of the relay team. Mitch Greeley was the fifth All-American, as he tied for fourth in the pole vault. It was the second All-America honor, but first outdoor, of his career.
