CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team is set to compete at the NCAA East Region Championships on May 27-28 in Randalls Island, NY. Fourteen Tigers have posted regional qualifying marks during the 2005 outdoor season. Of those qualifiers, 10 have made previous appearances at the East Region Championships. George Kitchens and Itay Magidi have each won past region crowns, as Kitchens was the long jump champion in 2003 and Magidi won the 3000m steeplechase that year.

Ronald Richards is the Tigers' top qualifier, as he will compete in four events at this year's meet. He is Clemson's top sprinter, posting team-best times in the 100m and 200m. Richards will also compete on the Tigers' 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams. The senior from Alexandria, VA, is making his second apperance in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.

Roy Cheney, Rashad Gardner and George Kitchens have all qualified to compete in three events. Cheney is the Tigers' leader in the 110m hurdles and will race on the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. The junior from Grovetown, GA, has competed in the high hurdles and as a member of the Tigers' 1600m relay team each of the last three years. Gardner's specialty is the hurdles as he will take to the track in the 110m and 400m hurdles, but he will also compete as a member of the 4x400m relay team. This is the second time the junior from Chesapeake, VA, will compete in the intermediate hurdles at the region level. Kitchens, who is making his third consecutive appearance in the long jump, has also qualified in the 100m and as a member of the 4x100m relay team. The senior from Hephzibah, GA, won the long jump in 2003 and was the runner-up in 2004. This will be the first year he competes in the running events at the region meet.

Michael Bolling is another two-event qualifiers for the Tigers. Bolling, a senior from Willingboro, NJ, will compete in the 400m hurdles at the East Region meet for the third consecutive year, and will also run on the Tigers' 4x400m relay team.

Itay Magidi will compete for a second trip to the NCAA Championships in the 3000m steeplechase. The sophomore from Yavne, Israel, advanced to the NCAA Championships in the steeplechase in 2003 after winning the event at the region meet. Derek Gilson, a senior from Red Bank, NJ, is making his first appearance in the region meet in the discus throw, after competing in the shot put as a sophomore and junior.

Scott Kautz returns to the East Region Championships for the third time in the 400m hurdles. A junior from Charleston, WV, he narrowly missed an at-large invitation in the 400m hurdles to the NCAA Championships last year. Sophomore Jason Bell will make his second appearance at the East Region Championships in the triple jump. The native of Warner Robbins, GA, finished 10th in the event at the 2004 region meet. Fellow sophomore Adam Linkenauger also returns to the region meet. Linkenauger, from Fincastle, VA, finished tied for second at the East Region Championships a year ago to qualify for the 2004 NCAA meet. A third sophomore, Lydell Perry, will compete in the 110m hurdles for the second consecutive year. A native of Jonesboro, GA, Perry finished fifth in the high hurdles at last year's meet to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Danny Alge, a sophomore from College Park, GA, is one of two Tigers to make their first appearances at the NCAA East Region Championships.
