CLEMSON, SC - Clemson men's track and field athlete Doug Ameigh was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III Men's Track and Field/Cross Country University Division Team announced today.

Ameigh, a senior from Washingtonville, PA, has a career 3.33 GPA. The mathematics teaching major was a 2002 NCAA Indoor All-American in the high jump, finishing fourth at this year's Championships. Ameigh cleared a career-best 7'3" during the indoor season to rank third on Clemson's all-time indoor high jump list. The eight-time All-ACC honoree finished second at the 2002 ACC Indoor Championships. He was the ACC Champion indoor and outdoor as a freshman (1999), and repeated as indoor champion in 2001. He is a member of the Clemson and ACC Academic Honor Rolls.

The team is made up of 10 student-athletes from eight schools within the district. All 10 members of the team are now on the national ballot for the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-American® Men's Track and Field/Cross Country Team, which is scheduled to be announced on Thursday, June 20.

The District III University Division consists of all NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-American® program, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible). In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
