Clemson, SC - Regional qualifier George Fields will lead a small squad of competitors from the men's track & field team Saturday at the Solid Orange Classic, a meet hosted by the Clemson women's program. Fields qualified for the East Region Championships last weekend after winning the long jump at Auburn. He will be the favorite in the event at 11:00 AM.
The meet gets underway at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Rock Norman Track. The first action for Bob Pollock's team will be the hammer throw. Zach Berg, who got his first taste of the 2008 outdoor season last weekend in Auburn, will compete Saturday. Clemson's first running event will be the 110m hurdles at 10:30. Brandon Carter, a freshman from Shelby, NC, is entered for the Tigers.
Kendall Millhouse, a freshman from Summerville, SC, will compete in Saturday's 100m and 200m dash. The 100m prelims are scheduled for 11:00 AM, with the final set for 1:20 PM. The 200m dash will be at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
A host of student-athletes will run the 1500m for Clemson on Saturday, led by red-shirt sophomore Sam Bryfczynski. He owns the team's best time in that event this season. Joining him on Saturday will be a trio of freshmen - Matt Bruce, Matt Hughes, and Tyler Morey. The 1500m race is slated for noon.
Jasen Turnbull looks to improve on his season-best time in the 800m. He turned out a time of 1:55.92 at Auburn last weekend in the event, and will compete at 1:40 PM Saturday. Andrew Porter, looking to qualify for the East Region meet in the intermediate hurdles, will run at approximately 2:10 PM Saturday.
