Otto Spain and a host of Tigers will compete in the 200

The Clemson men's track and field team will host the 2003 Clemson Invitational this weekend at the Rock Norman Track Complex. The Tigers will face a field that includes teams from Appalachian State, Charlotte, East Carolina and Iowa State. Saturday's meet will begin with the men's hammer throw at 11:15 AM. The first running event scheduled is the men's 3000m steeplechase slated for 1:00 PM. The meet will conclude after the running of the women's 4x400m relay at 5:35 PM. Three Tigers will kick off Clemson's competition at Saturday's meet in the 3000m steeplechase. David Adams, Ryan Fenton and David Smith will each compete in the first running event at 1:00 PM. At 1:35 PM, the Tigers' 4x100m relay will take to the track facing teams from Charlotte, Appalachian State and Iowa State. The meet continues with the 1500m run at 2:10 PM, featuring Clemson's Mike Barton, Itay Magidi, Clay Pendleton, Scott Shaw and Derrick Wyatt. At 2:20 PM, Roy Cheney, Rashad Gardner, Rick Hill, Ryan Hunter and Scott Kautz will represent the Tigers in the 110m hurdles. Garrick Copes, Rick Hill, Ryan Hunter, Ronald Richards and Otto Spain will compete in the 400m at 2:40 PM. The 100m dash, slated for 3:10 PM, will include Clemson's Larry Griffin, Grafton Ifill and Robert Ibeh. At 3:30 PM, Marcus Hodge, Derrick Wyatt, Mike Barton, Scott Shaw and Clay Pendleton will take to the track to contest the 800m. The field for the 400m hurdles scheduled for 4:00 PM will include four Tigers - Roy Cheney, Michael Bolling, Rashad Gardner and Scott Kautz. At 4:20 PM, Grafton Ifill, Otto Spain, George Kitchens, Tye Hill, Larry Griffin, Airese Currie and Robert Ibeh will compete in the 200m. Jason Meany and Matt Pimentel will compete in the 5000m, then the Tigers' 4x400m relay teams will race at 5:25 PM to conclude the men's meet.

In the field events, Clemson's Derek Gilson and Matt Lombardi will open the meet in the hammer throw at 11:15 AM. The javelin competition will feature Clemson's Ryan Hunter at 12:45 PM. Ben Daniels, Brit Barrow, Kai Maull, George Kitchens and Terrance McDaniel will compete in the long jump at 1:15 PM, while the pole vault, featuring Clemson's Adam Klotzbach, Andrew Kessler, Rick Hill, Ryan Lewis and Ryan Hunter, is scheduled for 1:30 PM. Ben Daniels and Terrance McDaniel will contest the high jump at 2:00 PM, and Ryan Hunter, Derek Gilson, Rick Hill and Matt Lombardi are slated to compete in the shot put at 2:30 PM. Ben Daniels, Terrance McDaniel, Kai Maull and Brit Barrow will also compete in the triple jump at 3:15 PM, followed by the Tigers' Rick Hill, Ryan Hunter, Derek Gilson and Matt Lombardi in the discus throw at 4:00 PM.

The Clemson Invitational will also feature seven elementary schools competing in the annual Clemson Elementary Relays. This week's third, fourth and fifth-grade teams are from Clemson Elementary, Code Elementary, Fair Oak Elementary, James M. Brown Elementary, Fair Oak Elementary, Walhalla Elementary and Westminster Elementary. The 8x75 yard relay for the third-graders is scheduled for 1:50 PM, the fourth-grade race will begin at 3:00 PM, and the fifth-graders will compete at 3:50 PM.
