CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team concluded competition on day two of the Clemson Opener held Saturday at the Indoor Track and Field Facility. Day two highlights for the Tigers included top-three performances by Lydell Perry, Roy Cheney, Clay Pendleton, Matt Lombardi, Derek Gilson, Larry Griffin, George Kitchens, Ronald Richards, Adam Linkenauger, Terrance McDaniel, Rashad Gardner, Ahmad Rutherford, Jason Bell, Michael Bolling, Warren Eure, Derrick Wyatt and Ryan Hunter.
Perry was the runner-up in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.14, while Cheney finished third in the event in 8.15. Ronald Richards claimed the 300m dash in 34.55, followed by Michael Bolling and Warren Eure who ran times of 34.65 and 34.81, respectively. Cheney won the 500m run with a time of 1:05.19, and Gardner was third in the event in 1:06.00. Pendleton finished second in the mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:25.62. Ahmad Rutherford was the third-place collegiate finisher in the 800m with a time of 2:00.55. Derrick Wyatt was the top collegiate finisher in the 3000m run, completing the race in 8:32.99. In the field events, Matt Lombardi was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put with a mark of 54'10.75", and Derek Gilson was third with his throw of 54'0". Adam Linkenauger was the runner-up among collegiate competitors in the high jump, and Terrance McDaniel was third, as both cleared 6'9". Jason Bell placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 48'11". Ryan Hunter took third place among collegiate competitors in the pole vault, clearing 15'7".

60m Dash (Finals)
Cory Kook, running unattached, was the top finisher in the 60m dash, winning the race in 6.76. Clemson took the next three places, led by Larry Griffin and his time of 6.81. George Kitchens was the runner-up among collegiate competitors, completing the race in 6.88. Ronald Richards clocked a time of 6.89 to finish fourth overall and third among collegiate runners. Charlotte's Derrick Johnson placed fifth overall with a time of 6.89, and Michael Bolling of Clemson took sixth place in 6.91. Jordan Vaden and Cory Bridges, both unattached, rounded out the field with times of 6.94 and 6.98, respectively.
60m Hurdles (Finals)
Tennessee's Aries Merritt won the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.98, while Clemson took second and third places. Lydell Perry clocked a time of 8.14, edging teammate Roy Cheney by one-hundredth of one second. Savannah State's Aaron Whitely finished fourth in 8.17, and Ryan Keziah (unattached) completed the race in 8.22. Javonie Small of Morehouse crossed the line in 8.30, Eric Keddo of Savannah State placed seventh in 8.31 and South Carolina State's Deshawn Gregg rounded out the field, finishing in 8.39.
300m
Clemson sprinters claimed four of the top five places in the 300m dash, led by Ronald Richards' time of 34.55. Teammate Michael Bolling was the runner-up in 34.65, and Warren Eure crossed the line in 34.81. Tiger Robert Ibeh clocked a 34.95 to finish fourth, and Milton Bolton of Western Carolina was fifth in 35.02.
500m
Clemson's Roy Cheney won the 500m run with a time of 1:05.19, while Ryan Burney of Appalachian State was the runner-up in 1:05.28. Rashad Gardner of Clemson posted a time of 1:06.00 to finish third, and Charlotte's James Bacon placed fourth in 1:06.07. James Barr of Western Carolina rounded out the top five finishers, crossing the line in 1:06.30.
800m
Bjorn Margeirsson, running unattached, won the 800m run with a time of 1:53.24, setting a new Icelandic record. Savannah State's Daunte Saloy was the top collegiate finisher with a time of 1:56.06. Unattached Rashad Lee was the third-place runner in 1:56.35, and Florida State's Robert Cooper was fourth overall and the collegiate runner-up with a time of 1:57.16. Clemson's Ahmad Rutherford and Rick Hill were crossed the finish line in 2:00.55 and 2:01.52, respectively. Edmund Dixon of Morehouse was the fifth-place collegiate finisher with a time of 2:02.19.
One Mile
Chris Batista of Winthrop won the mile run with a time of 4:23.50, while Clemson's Clay Pendleton finished second, crossing the finish line in 4:25.62. John Palumbo and Sean Reilly, both unattached finished third and fourth with times of 4:30.70 and 4:31.18, respectively. Western Carolina's James Irwin finished fifth overall and third among collegiate competitors in 4:32.49.
3000m
Unattached runner Caleb Bailey won the 3000m run with a time of 8:32.30, edging Clemson's Derrick Wyatt, who was the top collegiate finisher with a time of 8:32.99. Also running unattached, Scott Shaw placed third with a time of 8:39.91, and Chris Nickinson of Florida State was the second collegiate finisher and fourth-place overall finisher, crossing the finish line in 8:42.16. Clemson's Matt Clark and David Smith posted times of 8:48.88 and 8:52.34, respectively, to place fifth and sixth. Jean-Pierre Joubert of North Carolina central was the seventh-place runner with a time of 9:18.41.
3000m (Unseeded)
In the first event of day two, Clemson's Matt Pimentel held off Morehouse's Josiah Lagat to claim the unseeded men's 3,000m run with a time of 8:56.77. Lagat finished second in 8:57.27, and Clemson's Greg Isaacs crossed the line in 9:14.72 to finish third. Georgia Tech's Adam Jones placed fourth in 9:20.61, and Joseph Estevez of North Carolina Central completed the race in 9:21.43. Winthrop's John Eagle and Peter Raines finished back-to-back with times of 9:27.37 and 9:31.75, respectively. Alex Brickler of Morehouse took eighth place with a time of 9:34.29, and Winthrop's Mike Laughlin placed ninth (10:11.38).
4x400m Relay
Clemson's 4x400m relay team claimed the event title with a time of 3:18.24, while Morehouse College placed second (3:20.40). Savannah State finished a close third, crossing the finish line in 3:20.49, and Charlotte's relay team was only two-tenths of one second (3:20.69) behind for fourth place. The 1600m relay team from Western Carolina rounded out the top five, clocking a time of 3:22.26.
High Jump
Michael Massey of Georgia Tech won the high jump with a clearance of 7'0.25", while Doug Ameigh and Brett Frykberg, competing unattached, cleared 6'9" to finish second and third overall. Clemson's Adam Linkenauger was the runner-up among collegiate competitors, and teammate Terrance McDaniel finished third among collegiate athletes, both also clearing 6'9". Winthrop's Brandon Morton cleared 6'7", and Ben Daniels of Clemson posted a mark of 6'5" to round out the top five collegiate finishers.
Triple Jump
Florida State took the top two spots in the triple jump, as Rafeeq Curry provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a mark of 51'4.25". Teammate Willie Johnson posted a leap of 50'7.5" to finish as the runner-up, and Clemson's Jason Bell finished third with a mark of 48'11". Cameron Dayne of Morehouse was fourth with a mark of 48'9", and Georgia Tech's Spencer Irvine took fifth place with a jump of 48'8".
Pole Vault
Two unattached pole vaulters, Chase Shealy and David Stephens, cleared 17'0.75" to finish one-two in the event. Tennessee's Mark Yurcho was the top collegiate vaulter, placing third overall with a clearance of 16'6.75". Chandler Rice, also competing unattached, placed fourth with a clearance of 16'6.75", and Tennessee's Jeff Trembley placed fifth with a mark of 16'0.75".Ryan Hunter of Clemson finished third among collegiate competitors, clearing 15'7".
Shot Put
New York Athletic Club's Reese Hoffa set the Clemson Indoor record in the shot put with a throw of 66'7" to win the event. Clemson's Matt Lombardi was the top collegiate finisher, posting a mark of 54'10.75", while John Fallone of Florida State finished second in collegiate competition with a mark of 54'9.25". Derek Gilson of Clemson rounded out the top three collegiate finishers, placing fourth overall with a mark of 54'0".
