Men's Track And Field Competes At Orange & Purple Classic

CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team competed at the 2002 Orange & Purple Classic held Saturday at the Rock Norman Track Complex. Todd Matthews and Dwight Thomas led the Tigers as they recorded qualifying marks in the 110m hurdles and 100m dash, respectively. In the 110m hurdles invitational event, Matthews recorded an automatic qualifying time of 13.60. Thomas' season-best and winning time of 10.26 in the 100m dash was a provisional qualifying mark. Ato Modibo won the 400m dash with a time of 46.66. Jacey Harper finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 10.46, and Airese Currie posted a time of 10.61 in the 100m dash to finish fifth. Otto Spain finished tied for third in the 200m dash with a time of 21.12, and Marcus Hodge recorded a time of 1:54.38 to finish sixth in the 800m run. Clemson's 4x100m relay team recorded a time of 40.13. George Kitchens posted a mark of 7.19m/23'7.25" in the long jump to finish second, and Brit Barrow placed seventh with his mark of 6.74m/22'1.5". Barrow won the triple jump with a mark of 15.55m/51'0.25" and Terrance McDaniel finished second (15.25m/50'0.5"). Ryan Lewis won the pole vault as he cleared 5.10m/16'8.75", and Adam Klotzbach was fifth (4.65m/15'3"). Andrew Kessler also cleared 4.65m/15'3" to place seventh in the pole vault. Terrance McDaniel won the high jump with a season-best mark of 2.16m/7'1", and Doug Ameigh finished third with a mark of 2.11m/6'11". Matt Lombardi finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 15.81m/51'10.5". The Tigers will wrap up their regular season next weekend, May 17-18, at the Reebok Invitational in Atlanta, GA.
