CLEMSON, SC - Two members of the Clemson men's track and field team completed day one of competition at the 2005 Orange & Purple Multis meet held Tuesday afternoon at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. Ryan Koontz is second overall after the first day of the decathlon, and leads all collegiate competitors. Teammate Brandon Holmes is in sixth place overall and third among collegiate athletes after the first five events. The Orange & Purple Multis meet will conclude on Wednesday, beginning with the 110m hurdles at 2:00 PM.

In the first event of the day, Koontz clocked a 11.67 in the 100m dash to finish with the third-fastest event time. Holmes was the second overall finisher, breaking the tape in 11.47. In the long jump, Koontz posted a mark of 21'2", while Holmes finished with a best mark of 17'9.25". Koontz posted a mark of 37'9.25" in the shot put, while Holmes' recorded a mark of 40'7" in the third event of the day. In the high jump, Koontz cleared a season-best 6'9", then posted a time of 51.15 in the 400m dash.

Steven Harris, competing unattached, leads all competitors entering the final day of competition with 4,188 points. Koontz amassed 3,553 points on day one to place second, and unattached Michael Feathers ranks third with 2,998 points. Wake Forest's Micahel Piscatelli is listed fourth after the first five events with 2,992 points, followed by Ryan Lewis (unattached) with 2,356 points. Holmes tallied 1,803 points for sixth playce, while Taylor Wildman has 1,632 and Wake Forest's Michael Bingham recorded 974 points as he competed in selected events.
