CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team qualified three student-athletes for the 2004 NCAA East Region Championships at the NC-SC All-Star Meet held at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex on Saturday. The Tigers won nine event titles, including the 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus, hammer and javelin. Clemson's Robert Ibeh, Marquis Andrews, Jason Bell, Derek Gilson and Matt Lombardi posted NCAA East Region Championship qualifying marks. Team North Carolina (Brevard, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, Mars Hill, UNC Wilmington) won this year's meet with 511 points, as Team South Carolina (Charleston Southern, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Morris) amassed 472 points.
In the 100m, Robert Ibeh recorded a time of 10.84 to place third, and four Tigers recorded season-best times in the 200m. Robert Ibeh captured the event title with a season-best regional qualifying time of 21.20, as Marquis Andrews, Warren Eure and Airese Currie also posted season-bests. Marquis Andrews was the runner-up with a time of 21.28, Warren Eure clocked a 12.38 and Airese Currie placed fourth with his time of 21.40. Darius Acker took fifth place in 21.74 and Brent Hobbs placed sixth, crossing the finish line in 22.33. Andrews recorded another season-best time in the 400m, winning the event with a regional qualifying time of 47.20, and Warren Eure also had a season-best performance of 48.00 to place third. Darius Acker clocked a 49.34 in the 400m to place fifth. In the 110m hurdles, Brandon Holmes placed fourth with a time of 17.31. Rashad Gardner was the event winner in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.16. Ryan Fenton was the runner-up in the 1500m, crossing the finish line in 4:04.26.
