PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Clemson men's track and field team concluded competition at the 110th annual Penn Relays on Saturday at Franklin Field. The Tigers' shuttle hurdle relay team's second-place finish in the Championship of America race was one of Clemson's highlights this weekend. Larry Griffin ran a 10.67 in the preliminaries of the 100m, while Lydell Perry finished eighth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.06 in the preliminaries and 14.35 in the finals. Roy Cheney also competed in the 110m hurdle preliminaries, crossing the finish line in 14.15. In the 400m hurdles championship, Roy Cheney was 13th with a time of 52.28 and Scott Kautz finished in 52.91 to place 18th. The Tigers' 4x200m relay team of Larry Griffin, Lydell Perry, Ronald Richards and Michael Bolling clocked a 1:25.12. Clemson's sprint medley relay team comprised of Ronald Richards, Lydell Perry, Michael Bolling and Ahmad Rutherford placed 10th in the Championship of America event with a time of 3:24.55, while the Tigers' distance medley relay team (Derrick Wyatt, Roy Cheney, Ahmad Rutherford, Matt Clark) recorded a time of 9:57.81 in that Championship of America event. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Roy Cheney, Brent Hobbs, Rick Hill and Lydell Perry placed second in the Championship of America with a time of 55.96.
 

 

George Kitchens placed sixth in the college men's long jump championship, and Derek Gilson placed 10th in the shot put championship while Matt Lombardi was fifth in the college men's shot put (53'5.75"). In the college championship discus throw, Derek Gilson placed eighth with a mark of 158'10" and Matt Lombardi was 12th in the college men's discus throw with his mark of 152'10".

The Clemson men's track and field team returns to action on May 1 as the Tigers host the NC-SC All-Star meet at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex.
