CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson men's track and field team claimed six event crowns at the Solid Orange Classic held at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex on Saturday. The Tigers, who competed in their final tune-up prior to next week's ACC Championships, captured the 110m hurdles, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, high jump, hammer throw and discus throw. Among the Tigers' highlights was the regional qualifying performance of Lydell Perry in the 110m hurdles.

In the running events, Robert Ibeh led seven Tigers in the 200m dash, finishing second in a season-best 21.65. Michael Bolling placed third in the 200m (21.70) and Darius Acker was fifth in 21.83. Cowin Mills brought home a third-place finish in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 49.33, Warren Eure placed fourth with his time of 49.60 and decathlete Brent Hobbs recorded a time of 55.11. The Tigers swept the top-three places in the 1500m run, behind Clay Pendleton's victory. Pendleton crossed the finish line in 3:59.79, followed by Sean Reilly (4:00.99) and Brian Soder (4:05.26). In the 3000m steeplechase, Itay Magidi posted a time of 9:18.45 to capture the event title. Lydell Perry won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.28, a season-best and regional qualifying performance.

Adam Linkenauger won the high jump event with a mark of 6'6.25", and Ryan Koontz finished second with a jump of 6'6.25". Mickey Sheats was the only Tiger to compete in the long jump, placing third with a mark of 21'0". In the pole vault, Ryan Koontz finished fourth with a jump of 14'1.25". Brent Hobbs placed sixth in the shot put with a season-best mark of 42'6.75", and Kyle Shaw posted a season-best mark of 39'7.25". Ryan Koontz threw 35'2" also in the shot put. Danny Alge was the event winner in the discus throw with his mark of 155'4". Alge also picked up a victory for the Tigers in the hammer throw, posting a season-best mark of 184'5", improving on his regional qualifying mark. In the javelin throw, Brandon Holmes recorded a mark of 153'3" to place seventh.

 

 

The Tigers return to action on Thursday, Apr. 21, as they begin competition at the ACC Championships. This year's conference meet will be held in Tallahassee, FL, and will conclude on Saturday, Apr. 23.
