ATLANTA, GA - The Clemson men's track and field team battled adverse weather conditions at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday. Two Tigers qualified for the East Region Championships, as Ronald Richards and Derek Gilson surpassed the regional qualifying standards in the 100m and shot put, respectively. Richards was the runner-up in the 100m, improving his season-best time to 10.24. Gilson finished eighth in the shot put with his regional qualifying and season-best mark of 55'3".

On the track, Darius Acker led Clemson in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 21.90. Michael Bolling was the top Tiger finisher in the 400m with his time of 48.04. Matt Clark recorded a top-10 finish in the 1500m with a time of 3:56.62, and Roy Cheney recorded a season-best time of 14.24 in the 110m hurdles. Unfortunately, the wind speed was above the allowable limit in the high hurdles, negating Cheney's opportunity for a regional qualifying mark in that event. In the 400m hurdles, Rashad Gardner recorded a time of 54.15, and Sean Reilly brought home a fifth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with his time of 9:40.90. The Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Cheney, Richards, Ibeh and Sheats placed fourth with a time of 41.15.

Mickey Sheats finished tied for sixth in the long jump with a mark of 22'9.25", and Gilson placed seventh in the discus with a mark of 160'9". Danny Alge recorded a mark of 177'5" in the hammer to place eighth in that event.

The Tiger track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 9 at the Clemson Invitational.
