CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men's track and field team completed day two of competition at the Clemson Relays with two NCAA East Region qualifiers. Rashad Gardner and Ronald Richards posted regional qualifying marks in the 110m hurdles and 100m dash, respectively. Gardner placed fourth in the high hurdles event with a time of 14.31, while Ronalds crossed the finish line in the sprint event in 10.33. The Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Roy Cheney, Ronald Richards, Robert Ibeh and Mickey Sheats, along with Rashad Gardner, the 4x400m relay team of Richards, Michael Bolling, Gardner and Cheney, as well as the distance medley relay team of Derrick Wyatt, Darius Acker, Cowin Mills and Matt Clark, each won their events.

On the track, Richards claimed the 100m dash with his regional qualifying time of 10.33, while Robert Ibeh placed fifth with a time of 10.87. Gardner was the Tigers' top finisher in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.31, and he also captured the 400m hurdles title with a time of 53.01. Scott Kautz was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 53.19, and Michael Bolling placed fourth in the intermediate hurdles with a time of 54.01. Clemson's 4x100m relay team of Cheney, Richards, Ibeh and Sheats won that event in 40.84, and three 4x400m relay teams competed, paced by the winning time of 3:12.56 set by Richards, Bolling, Gardner and Cheney. The 4x800m relay team of Clay Pendleton, Mills, Sean Reilly and Eric Soder placed fourth with a time of 7:58.66, and the foursome of Pendleton, Wyatt, Brian Soder and Matt Clark finished second in the 4x1500m relay with a time of 16:00.18. The Tigers fielded two distance medley relay teams, with the top team of Wyatt, Acker, Mills and Clark turning in a winning time of 10:15.78.
 

 

Ryan Koontz and Arthur Hinton tied for fifth place in the high jump with clearances of 6'5", while Mickey Sheats placed second among collegiate competitors in the triple jump with a mark of 46'1.25". In the shot put, decathlete Brent Hobbs posted a mark of 41'5", while Gilson led the Tigers in the discus throw with his mark of 163'4". Danny Alge recorded a fifth-place finish in the discus, posting a mark of 155'8". Alge was the top Tiger finisher in the hammer throw, placing fourth with a mark of 178'8".

The Tiger track and field team returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 2 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
