CLEMSON, SC - Clemson men's track and field freshman Mickey Sheats captured the long jump competition on day one of the Clemson Relays. Sheats, from Athens, GA, recorded a mark of 23'6" on his final attempt of the day to win the event. Two other Tigers earned top-five finishes to highlight the first day of Clemson's outdoor opener. Matt Pimentel placed third in the 10,000m with a time of 31:01.35, while Greg Isaacs placed fifth in the 10,000m run with his time of 31:38.68.

Also in competition for the Tigers on Friday evening, Ryan Koontz, a multi-event athlete, posted a mark of 16'3" in the long jump. Brandon Holmes recorded a mark of 145'6" in the javelin throw to place sixth in that event.

Other day one event winners included Kyle Orender (Purdue) in the 10,000m, Kyle Helf (Georgia) in the javelin throw and Brian Mondschein (Virginia Tech) in the pole vault.

The Clemson Relays continues on Saturday morning, with running and field events beginning at 10:00 AM. The meet is being held at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex on the campus of Clemson University.
