Clemson, SC - Senior Matt Clark broke the Clemson Indoor Facility record in the 3000-meter run to highlight Saturday's action and lead the Tigers to a first-place finish at the Clemson Invitational. Travis Padgett and Trenton Guy also captured event titles in the 60m and 200m races, respectively.

The men's track & field team scored 133.5 points for a convincing win at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday. Georgia was second with 102 and Charlotte came in third with 83 points.

Clark, a native of Hyannis, MA, recorded a time of 8:15.41 to take first place in the 3000m and break the Clemson indoor facility record. The previous best time was 8:16.89 by Andrew Lemoncello of Florida State at last year's ACC Championships. Also competing in the 3000m competition was Matt Bruce (8:31.20) a freshman from Ontario, who placed fourth, while Matt Hughes (9:09.05) was 14th and Dan Cartica (9:13.95) came across in 16th place.

Travis Padgett, a junior from Shelby, NC, won the 60m dash, posting another NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.69 seconds. C.J. Spiller finished third at 6.78 and Guy was fourth with a time of 6.85.

Guy won the 200m dash with a time of 21.86, and Cowin Mills finished fourth with a time of 22.03. Corey Brown also scored in the 200m dash with a time of 22.26.
 

 

Mills finished third in the 400m with a time of 48.70, Travis Swaggard was fifth at 49.03, and Brown finished sixth with a time of 49.32. In the 800m, Andrew Porter finished third with a time of 1:56.23.

Brandon Carter finished ninth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.75.

Sam Bryfczynski finished sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:21.17, and Tyler Morey finished eighth with a time of 4:25.60. Chad Holt finished ninth in the mile with a time of 4:28.60.

Scott Pauga finished fifth in the high jump with a season-best mark of 6'8.25", and Conner Webb finished eighth with a leap of 6'4.25".

Josh Fowler recorded one official mark in the triple jump, but it was good enough for a seventh-place showing. The red-shirt freshman hit a distance of 46'8.25".

In the pole vault, sophomore Chris Spear finished in the runner-up position after clearing a season-best mark of 16'6.75". Mitch Greeley, school record-holder in the event, did not compete Saturday due to rest. Joey O'Rourke placed sixth and John Oberg was seventh, as both cleared 14'7.25".

Alex Padgett was a scorer for the Tigers in the shot put, as he recorded a distance of 48'5.5" on his next-to-last throw.

The Tigers return to action next weekend for the JRF Multi-Event Challenge, held January 25-26 at the school's indoor facility.
