Terrance Herrington, a native of Hartsville, SC, was a middle-distance runner for Clemson from 1985-89. While at Clemson he was a four-time NCAA All-American and a five-time ACC Champion. He was a member of Clemson's 1989 4x800 meter relay team that went on to win an NCAA championship, which was the first for a relay team in Clemson history. They set a world record time of 7:17.45.
Herrington finished third in the nation for the 1500 meters in both 1987 and 1989 and fourth in the 800 meters in 1988 in outdoor track. He won the 800 meters in 1988 at the indoor ACC Championships as well as the outdoor in 1987. In 1989 he was part of the two-mile relay champions indoor and 1500-meter champion outdoors. He earned All-ACC Honors in 1987-89 and holds Clemson records in the 800 and 1500 meters outdoors and the 1000 meters indoors.
Herrington went on to be the USA National 1500-meter Champion in 1989 and 1991. He also competed in the 1500 meters in the 1992 Olympics where he was one-tenth of a second from qualifying for the semi-finals. In 2002 Herrington was named to the ACC 50th Anniversary track team.
