Tigers Fall To Illinois In NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament on Sunday

Champaign, IL - The Clemson men's tennis team fell to #1-ranked Illinois 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament at the Atkins Tennis Center at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Illinois improves to 28-0, while the Tigers finish the season at 25-11. Illinois won at number one and two doubles to clinch the doubles point. #22 Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins dropped an 8-1 decision to Michael Calkins and Amer Delic at number one doubles, while Damiisa Robinson and John Boetsch fell to #9 Rajeev Ram and Brian Wilson at flight two doubles, 8-2. In singles play, Nathan Thompson fell to Delic at number one singles, 6-2, 6-6(3). Jenkins dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Phil Stolt at flight three singles, and John Boetsch lost to Chris Martin at number five singles by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Clemson's doubles team of Nathan Thompson and Jenkins has been invited to the NCAA Men's Individual Championships May 17-20 at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. The nation's top 32 doubles teams will compete in the tournament, including five teams from the ACC.
